Prepare your first golf competition
The first competition is always impressive. Here are a few tips to make sure it remains a good memory:
- Arrive early and warm up at The driving range : ten wedge shots, ten mid-iron shots, a few drives, then some short putts.
- Know the basic rules drop, provisional ball and out of bounds; if in doubt about the course, play a second ball and ask at the finish.
- Play your game, not that of your partners: on a 9-hole course, a par and eight bogeys make an excellent stableford score.
- Keep to the pace : be ready to play when it's your turn, and let a faster game pass if you're losing ground.
- Take advantage of the prize-giving ceremony, even without having won: that's where you get to know the club, and often where you find your future playing partners.
If you're still hesitating, a Guided on course package Having a meeting with a teacher a few days before the test alleviates most of the apprehensions.

The formulas game
The Stableford:
The most common format at Belvedere. Each hole awards points based on your net score relative to par: one point for a bogey, two for par, and three for a birdie. A bad hole doesn't ruin your scorecard, making this format ideal for beginners and ranking competitions.
The scramble:
A team format, usually for two players. Each player hits the ball, the team chooses the best shot, and everyone plays again from that spot. Friendly, fast-paced, and pressure-free: that's the formula for Reblochon and Beaujolais tournaments, where pairs are often made up of players who don't know each other, encouraging interaction.
Stroke play:
The classic scoring system for all strokes, used for certain club events and for the Championship. Demanding, it reserves its best memories for regular players.
The complete rules of these formats, and the history of golf competition, are detailed on the Wikipedia Golf page; the reception and the AGB will gladly explain them to you before your first event.
Ranking competitions
Golf competitions offer the opportunity to formalize your level in the FFG rankings.
How about taking part in a ranking competition ?
A good drive,
- A good swing,
- A great approach,
