Why golf is an inter-generational family sport
Golf is a generational sport, and you'll see the generational relationships it creates.
We're not just referring to its origins in 13th-century Scotland, but above all to the generational relationships it will create.
You'll often come across players telling you the same story.
I'm teaching my four-year-old son to play. I want my son to have the same memories of playing as his father and other members of the family. I want him to take up the game again as a teenager and as an adult. One day, I hope he'll teach his children to play golf.
So, if you want to create inter-generational family memories with your children, we encourage you to try golf with your kids.
Why should starting golf with your children teach them life lessons?
While many other sports allow you to bend the rules or push them to their limits, starting golf with your children or teenagers early will give them limits and even rules to respect.
In some professional sports, you're encouraged to break the rules until the referee catches you. Golf couldn't be further from that. It's an individual sport and you are the referee of your own game.
In the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA), integrity must be maintained at the highest level. If you feel intimidated at this stage, let us put your mind at rest.
The aim is to encourage your children to enjoy golf, and to do this the rules of the game are introduced gradually as the child's skill level increases.
Learning to play golf with children takes time and patience
Learning to play golf takes time and patience, but if you see it through to the end, whether you're a man or a woman, you'll be able to make a difference. a womanyou'll be able to enjoy it for the rest of your life, whether you're 30, 40 or retirement.
Once you have learned to playYou can play right up to your senior years. This is an advantage that golf has over many other sports. Other sports also depend on your physical characteristics and level of fitness. That's why golf is an excellent sport to learn from an early age, even as a secondary sport.
Over time, your favourite sport or number will fade a little, but golf will always be an option.
What are the benefits of regular golfing for children and teenagers?
There are many physical and mental benefits to playing golf. Golf is a great way to get children moving in a safe environment. It teaches them a sport they will love and that can last a lifetime. It helps develop coordination and gross motor skills.
Golf is a low-intensity sport that doesn't overtax their little growing bodies. It has little impact, but nonetheless provides vital cardiovascular exercise that promotes general health and prevents obesity.
What equipment is needed (children's golf set) to get a child started in golf?
All golfers love to get new clubs and your child will be no exception. You don't have to break the bank, but find him a driver and putter designed for children of his age/size.
Above all, involve him in the buying process. If you can, make a day of it - let him try them on in the shop, give him some power in choosing a golf club he likes and will want to use.
Teaching children to play golf means getting them involved. And if you provide them with the equipment they need to feel up to the task, they'll want to play the part.
Here's a list of the children's golf equipment they'll need:
Children's golf clubs :
Children's golf clubs are often specially adapted to enable them to play comfortably.
However, it's worth noting that children grow up and have to change clubs every two or three years. As a priority, try to get them to lend them to you or buy them second-hand.
If you buy them new, it's easy to find a family with children younger than your own to take them back.
Children's golf bag :
Junior golf bags or children's golf bags are lightweight bags with a tripod.
Children's golf trolley :
As well as the choice of design, there are other criteria to consider before buying a children's golf trolley. Firstly, the material used in its manufacture. For equipment such as this that is often exposed to the open air and the elements, stainless steel is the most recommended material, as it is corrosion-resistant.
Weight is also crucial, so try to keep your trolley as light as possible, especially on two wheels.
What is a children's golf kit?
For beginners, there's nothing like starting with a children's golf set featuring :
- Wood 3,
- A hybrid,
- An iron
- A wedge
- A putter.
When their swing starts to improve, you can gradually add a few irons, hybrids and woods.
Children's golf glove :
There's nothing compulsory about wearing a golf glove for your swing. However, this little accessory is particularly essential for ensuring a good swing. good grip when the swing is executed.
While wearing a glove is a matter of course for adult golfers, it can sometimes be overlooked by younger players.
Which children's golf shoe should I use to get started?
To start with, trainers, canvas trousers and a polo shirt will do just fine. Rainwear is sometimes useful, as golf is an outdoor sport.
What golf accessories do I need for my child?
- Golf balls
- Tees
- Ball markers
It's important to have the right golf equipment, but playing golf with children doesn't have to be expensive.
What should I wear?
You don't need to buy lots of new equipment and clothes. For your first outing, try hiring some clubs (or borrowing some from a friend), just to see if it's a sport you'd like to keep doing.

What is the passing of flags in golf?
Just like the stars and snowflakes in skiing, the purple, red and green balls in tennis or the belts in judo, golf offers the opportunity to validate levels of learning, in line with children's ability to practise and understand their sport.
Learning to play golf involves acquiring 8 flags. The first 5 coloured flags are green, red, blue, yellow and white. The next 3 symbolise the metal of the Olympic podiums: bronze, silver and, ultimately, gold.
The 1st flag is offered from the 1st term in golf school. Subsequent rounds are staggered according to age, maturity and motivation.
It takes about 3 years of regular practice to acquire all the flags.
Passing a flag generally corresponds to a cycle of lessons at the golf school. The aim is to obtain a course permit.
